Adam Sharples, Director of Public Spending,
has now invited over 300 senior civil servants to an 'informal gathering'
at the institute of Mechanical Engineers in June. They have been
invited to learn more about the programme and to help "ensure
that the lessons of innovation and partnership are made known to
policy makers in Departments so they can be sustained in policy
and programme design."

10/10/01 - 'Joining Forces' The Second
ISB Conference
Joining Forces was the title of the second Invest
to Save Budget conference. Its an apt name, underlining the
nature not only of the event, but the programme as a whole. Bringing
together the many players who can contribute to smarter, better
public services. Breaking down the barriers between them. Bridging
the gaps and building relationships that work. Joining Forces indeed.
The full text of the keynote address, delivered
by the Rt Hon Andrew Smith MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury,

--/10/01 - Criminal Justice Forum
The Criminal Justice Forum is part of the ISB
networking programme and brought together project managers and others
from the Criminal Justice community to digest and exchange their
experiences to date.
Twenty innovative ISB Criminal Justice projects
were profiled at the forum. These projects provided an invaluable
opportunity to learn what's happening in the joint delivery of services
and how to apply this knowledge in the future design of joined-up
government initiatives within the Criminal Justice System. Click

will be added in due course.

This event will address our aim of stimulating
private sector involvement in the generation of partnerships, rather

involvement.

03/04/01 - Virtual Service; Making IT Real
The purpose of the workshop was to learn
more about how IT systems are being used to deliver services across
a range of government departments and agencies while exploring how
partnerships have managed themselves in this context. The day also
offered a valuable opportunity for Treasury and e-Envoy officials
to listen to delegates about their take on the Invest to Save Budget
and some of the wider issues that it raises for `E delivery.

06/03/01 - 'Joining Forces' The First ISB Conference
Staging a large public event focusing on the
Invest to Save Budget (ISB) has been a central facet of the Treasury
and Cabinet Office agenda for raising the profile of this innovative
programme. One of our ongoing objectives is to ensure that we succeed
in working to create an environment in which more people know
about ISB, and are better able to access the lessons that are being
learnt through the programme. Such an event was a key component
in our strategy, and what better time than the announcement of the
ISB round 3 winners?

29/01/01 - ISB Workshop: Working for Business, Working with Business
Working for Business, Working with Business:
the fourth workshop hosted by us, this time with the Department
of Trade and Industry, was held in Manchester on the 29th of January
2001. The workshop focussed on how business and the public sector
can work with and for each other to improve public service delivery,
and provided an opportunity to speak with individual managers of
projects providing innovative services. The workshop was well attended,
and we have received very good feedback about the event.

16/01/01 - Social Welfare and the Pursuit of Partnership
The Treasurys
ISB unit sponsored a hands-on workshop exploring how partnership
working has contributed to developments in these key policy areas;
- Social inclusion
- The welfare of Young
People
- Addressing Substance
Misuse
The Invest to Save
Budget (ISB) has encouraged, particularly in its second and third
rounds, the development of projects that can offer new or better
ways of focusing services on the citizen. In numerical terms these
three policy areas account for a substantial proportion of projects
that have been funded. The workshop explored how partnerships have
evolved to achieve their objectives, what initiatives have been
taken, what models have emerged, and what pitfalls might best be
avoided.
